Study 5: Hair shedding
Dermatological study on hair loss
- Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study in 26 healthy volunteers
- Mean age: 45 years, f/m = 2:1
- Number of hairs shed per day: ≤ 110. Subjects with higher hair shedding, measured during two daily combing sessions, were excluded from the study.
- Application: Hair gel with Dermatopoietin® or placebo for 2 x 4 days with a break of 10 days in-between. The gels were applied overnight and the volunteers allowed washing them out the other morning.
Shed hairs were collected twice daily on predefined days upon combing and counted.
Dermatopoietin® resulted in a significant and long-term reduction of hair shedding compared to placebo.
Figure: Dermatopoietin® and placebo changed hair shedding relative to baseline over a period of more than 3 months
on the average by - 25.3 ± 5.5%. The corresponding value for placebo was +1.3 ±3.4%.
The difference between the verum and placebo group was significant with p<0.01.
